Commissioned copies of classical paintings

Making a copy of an artwork is a very delicate issue, because of the author´s rights and because of the concept of "originality". But for me, as an artists, making copies or interpretations of classical artworks is, first of all, a perfect learning. I admire old masters and when I get a order to produce a copy, Normally I go to the museum to see the original first and also study the history and the technique. And I NEVER make a copy of the same size as the original to be sure that there is no replacement. Nevertheless, my copies are made with maximum precision of detail and technique.

Why people want copies? This question can have multiple answers. First of all, they might have seen an old painting in a museum which made a mark, so they would like to have a memory about it. Second, the copy of a classical painting might make part of the style of their interior. And third, Some collectors can be interested in some specific subject, like a portrait of Napoleon, in all kinds of representation.

I any case, i learn so much with each copy, I get more organized, I improve my methodology and get new ideas.

PORTRAITS

I love painting portraits, because it is the best way to know a person. And I´m lucky, because most of the orders which I receive are portraits. I paint anyone, children, grownups, men and women, families or compositions, looking for a specific mode of representation for each one. Although I prefer painting from a model, nowadays people mostly do not have time to sit and contemplate, so I sometimes take several photos and after use them to construct the portrait. A portrait for me is something different than a simple repetition of a photo or a register of a model´s appearance, when I make a portrait, I look for a typical pose and expression which reveals the model´s state of mind.

I remember myself painting portraits from very yang age, When I was 12 years old, I convinced my parents to take me to Moscow during my school summer holidays, so I could draw portraits on the famous Arbat street - the street of artists. That was my fist success and after I never stopped .
